INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON GLACIER PROTECTION AT TNU

Thanks to global initiatives and the continuous attention of the Founder of Peace and National Unity, Leader of the Nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan, His Excellency Emomali Rahmon, to water and climate issues—including the preservation of glaciers and freshwater sources—the UN General Assembly declared March 21 as International Glacier Protection Day.

Today, March 14, 2025, in honor of the International Year of Glacier Protection – 2025 and World Glacier Protection Day – March 21, an international scientific and practical conference was held at TNU on the topic “Glaciers of Tajikistan: A Source of Water Resources for Central Asia in the Context of Climate Change.”

The conference was attended by representatives of relevant ministries and agencies, as well as scientific and educational institutions from the country.

At the conference, experts presented reports on the following topics:

  • “Priority Initiatives of the Founder of Peace and National Unity, Leader of the Nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan, His Excellency Emomali Rahmon, in Addressing Water and Climate Challenges of the Planet.”
  • “Distribution and Formation of Thermal-Mineral Waters in the Intermountain Basins of the Tien Shan.”
  • “Viscoplastic Relaxation of Glacier Movement.”
  • “Global Initiatives of the Leader of the Nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan, His Excellency Emomali Rahmon, for the Protection of Water Resources and Glaciers.”
  • “Dependence of the Hirson Glacier’s Movement on Changes in Meteorological Parameters.”
  • “Analysis of Glacier Conditions on the Left Bank of the Panj River (Northern Slopes of the Hindu Kush Range, Afghanistan).”
  • “Global Trends in Glacier Degradation and Tajikistan’s Initiatives for Their Preservation and Adaptation to Changing Climate Conditions.”

It was emphasized that, considering the timely proposals made by President Emomali Rahmon on water and climate issues, specialists and researchers must take the initiative and ensure the successful and high-quality implementation of all planned activities. This is crucial for ensuring sustainable development and the successful execution of new initiatives.
