DECEMBER 18 – INTERNATIONAL ARABIC LANGUAGE DAY

154

(scientific and cultural conference at TNU)

Tajikistan is a successful country in terms of international politics. In particular, it is very enjoyable that the Leader of the Nation His Excellency Emomali Rahmon has special respect and status among the Arab countries and among their leaders. Constant visits and the establishment of cooperation and relations with them are a confirmation of the above.

That is why the level of cooperation between Tajikistan and all Arab countries is expanding in many areas. In light of this policy, today, at the initiative of the administration of the university and the faculty of Asian and European languages was held an interesting cultural and scientific meeting, which was dedicated to the International Day of the Arabic Language. It cannot be denied that the field of Arabic studies and the study of the Arabic language is very developed in Tajikistan and even in the former Soviet Union (Faculty of Oriental Studies) it was one of the first.

The conference was opened by the Dean of the Faculty of Asian and European Languages, Associate Professor Shodmon Saidalizoda and among others mentioned the following:

Dear Mr. Walid ibn Abdurrahman Ar-Reshaidan – Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the Republic of Tajikistan, dear guests, teachers and students!

I welcome you to the scientific and cultural conference on the occasion of the “International Arabic Language Day”, which is held at the Department of Arabic Philology of the Faculty of Asian and European Languages of the Tajik National University.

In fact, language is the most important sign of the nation, which, in addition to connecting the past with the present, also serves as a stable currency for uniting peoples and nations and strengthening ties between cultures and civilizations. As the Founder of Peace and National Unity – the Leader of the Nation, the President of the Republic of Tajikistan His Excellency Emomali Rahmon emphasized: “The national language is a brilliant mirror of history, spiritual world, wisdom and knowledge of each nation.”

Dear participants!

Since the first days of independence, the Republic of Tajikistan has established friendly diplomatic relations with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is one of the first countries officially recognized the independence of Tajikistan, and mutually beneficial bilateral cooperation has been going between these two friendly countries for more than thirty years.

A clear indication of the strengthening of bilateral relations is the working visit of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, the Leader of the Nation, the Honorable Emomali Rahmon, to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in November 2024 to participate in the Joint Arab-Islamic Extraordinary Summit. In this regard, cooperation between these two friendly countries in the field of science and education has also expanded in recent years. In particular, in the past few years, some of the citizens of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia have studied and conducted research at various levels of education at the Tajik National University of, and at the same time, some of the Arabic language teachers of the university staff participated in advanced training in higher educational institutions of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Arabic is one of the six official languages of the United Nations, having been recognized as the sixth official language of the UN on December 18, 1973.

It is worth noting that the Arabic language is very popular among Tajiks. That is why the Tajik National University pays special attention to Arabic studies and its development. It is worth noting that in the late 50s of the last century, the Department of Arabic Philology was formed at the university, on the basis of which the greatest Tajik Arabists grew up. Without magnification, it can be said that the main database of Tajik Arabic studies is located at the Tajik National University.

Today, the process of globalization requires that every person, especially a student, along with their native language, know one or more foreign languages, because knowledge of other cultures, the protection of national values and their promotion are ensured by knowledge of foreign languages. That is why in his speeches, the great Leader of the Nation constantly emphasizes to young people that regardless of their qualifications, they should pay attention to learning foreign languages.

Nowadays, the Tajik National University has created all the conditions for learning foreign languages, in particular, for learning Arabic. Only students should show more courage in learning the language and worthily use these conditions and opportunities.

Dear guests! Taking this opportunity to declare today’s scientific and cultural conference open, I would like to welcome Mr. Ambassador and his accompanies to the Tajik National University. I am confident that the organization of such conferences will contribute to the expansion of cooperation and the strengthening of students’ linguistic knowledge.

Welcome again, dear guests!

Then, the Vice-Rector for Science, Professor S. Safarmamadzoda has spoken about the beneficial relations between the two friendly countries, and assessed such positive results as the wise policy of the Leaders of the two friendly states. In addition, Professor Saidrahmon Sulaymonov expressed his opinions on the value and greatness of the language, its role in presentations and dialogues, and some important aspects of learning and teaching the Arabic language.

Indeed, in the republic, the Faculty of Asian and European Languages of the Tajik National University is one of the largest centers where Arabic is taught. Thanks to Independence, these areas have expanded even further, which was clearly evident in today’s event. The level of Arabic language proficiency of the students impressed the guests. The exciting scenes and programs presented by them were very fascinating.

A few highlights from the speech of the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the Republic of Tajikistan, Walid bin Abdurahman Ar-Reshaydon:

I am happy to be in this glorious abode of science and education.

The Tajik National University, as a tower of wisdom, is at the service of science and education.

I am honored to be among you for the fourth time – at this historical university.

In 1973, the UN declared Arabic, along with other languages, as an official and working language. In this regard, the role of my country – Saudi Arabia, is very great.

This language is a high creativity and imagination.

The King Salman International Academy for Arabic Language Studies was established by the Council of Ministers of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in 2019.

Arabic is the fourth most widely spoken language in the world. More than 500 million people speak this language. It is recognized as an official state language in 26 countries. Arabic is the only language that has a unique letter “zod”.

French writer William Mercier said about the Arabic language: “The Arabic language is like a lute (a musical instrument): if you pluck one of its strings, all the strings sound, making the language of the heart tremble with feelings and images from behind the veils of the symbol.”

Our country, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, is a truly Arab country that has made the Arabic language the basis of all its systems.

We have a great historical past, which is connected to many civilizations. The level of cooperation between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Republic of Tajikistan in the field of the Arabic language has witnessed expansion and prosperity in recent years.
