Afghan President Receives an Honorary Doctorate from the Tajik National University

Yesterday, the President of Afghanistan Mohammad Ashraf Ghani met with the staff of teachers and students of the Tajik National University (TNU) in Dushanbe.

Ghani was met by the Minister of Education and Science Muhammadyusuf Imomzoda, the rector of TNU Kobiljon Khushvakhtzoda, and representatives of the diplomatic structures.

Ghani’s visit to TNU is a historic event and began with a review of the scientific and technical achievements of the university.

Khushvakhtzoda spoke about the importance and timeliness of the meeting, the historical ties of the Tajik and Afghan people, cooperation between Tajikistan and Afghanistan in the field of education on the example of TNU and the universities of Afghanistan.

He also announced the decision of the University Academic Council on the election of Ghani as an honorary member of the Academic Council and an honorary doctor of the Tajik National University.

Awarding him with the degree, Khushvakhtzoda noted that the decision to award Ghani was taken for his significant contribution to the development of scientific and educational cooperation.

In his speech, Ghani expressed gratitude to President Emomali Rahmon, the Ministry of Education and Science and the TNU administration.

Ghani also spoke about the importance of strengthening scientific, educational, cultural, and economic cooperation.

He also added that this meeting will serve to further develop scientific and educational relations between the universities of the two countries, and will determine new prospects for cooperation.

Ghani is visiting the university for the second time. His first visit took place on May 10, 2016, during which a memorable meeting took place.
