Tajik National University, as a leading institution of higher professional education in the country, has effectively organized its activities in the fields of education, science, innovation, upbringing, international relations, and economic and financial management.
Thanks to the dedicated efforts of the teaching staff, employees, and students, Tajik National University achieved a number of significant accomplishments and memorable events in 2025.
1) The most important and unforgettable historical event for the teaching staff, employees, and students of the University during the reporting period was the visit of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, His Excellency Emomali Rahmon, and the Mayor of Dushanbe, His Excellency Rustam Emomali, to Tajik National University on June 20, 2025. During the visit, the Diagnostic, Treatment, and Training Center of Tajik National University located in the Student Township was officially inaugurated.
2) It is gratifying to note that, by the Resolution of the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan dated November 22, 2025, No. 634, the Charter of Tajik National University and the State Educational Standards of Tajik National University were approved.
3) Another achievement of the University is related to the development and expansion of its scientific and educational capacities, as well as aligning the education system with modern requirements and the global labor market. In order to implement the instructions and directives of the Leader of the Nation delivered at the Seventh Meeting of the Board of the Agency for Supervision in the Field of Education and Science under the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, the issue of opening new academic programs was given serious consideration. As a result, Tajik National University was authorized to launch 12 new bachelor’s degree programs characterized by modern relevance, competitiveness, and high demand in the labor market.
4) Within the framework of the state’s social policy and with the aim of improving the quality of medical services, the Faculty of Dentistry was established at Tajik National University on the basis of the Faculty of Medicine.
5) In connection with the establishment of the new faculty, and based on the existing departments of Therapeutic Dentistry and Orthopedic Dentistry and Maxillofacial Surgery, two new departments were created: the Department of Orthopedic Dentistry and the Department of Maxillofacial Surgery. As a result, the total number of departments at the University reached 128.
6) In order to implement the state policy of the Republic of Tajikistan in the field of digitalization of governance, improve the records management system, enhance the efficiency of administrative activities, ensure transparency, and align documentation processes with modern requirements, an Electronic Document Management System was established and put into operation at Tajik National University.
7) In recent years, in light of the instructions and directives of the Leader of the Nation aimed at improving the quality of education and upbringing and aligning it with international education standards, including inclusion in international rankings, Tajik National University has undertaken the necessary measures. As a result, during the reporting year, the international university ranking organization QS Quacquarelli Symonds announced the new results of the QS Asia University Rankings 2026. Tajik National University was included in this prestigious list as the only institution of higher professional education of the Republic of Tajikistan. In the ranking, the University scored 23.2 points, placing it among the top 45 percent of the best universities in Asia. Compared to the results of 2022–2025, this represents the best achievement of Tajik National University in the QS rankings. The new QS ranking included 1,529 leading universities in Asia, which is 542 more universities than in the previous year.
At the same time, the University was also ranked among the world’s leading universities in the UI GreenMetric World University Ranking, which is developed based on the criteria of the Sustainable Development Goals. Among 1,747 universities from 105 countries, Tajik National University achieved a prominent position with a score of 4,820 points. It should be noted that Tajik National University has now been included in three major global university rankings: UI GreenMetric, QS, and Times Higher Education, achieving a distinguished position in all three rankings.
8) During this period, in accordance with the instructions and directives of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, His Excellency Emomali Rahmon, regarding the transition to international accreditation, Tajik National University implemented important measures. In the reporting year, the University cooperated with the Independent Agency for Accreditation and Rating (IAAR/NAAR), through which 11 academic programs were reviewed by an international commission across five clusters. These programs included: Accounting, Analysis and Audit; Management; World Economy; International Law; Journalism; Geological Survey; Geological Exploration and Exploration of Mineral Resources; Informatics; Modern Foreign Languages (English); Tajik Philology; Russian Language and Literature; and Dentistry (Bachelor’s degree). As a result, all 11 academic programs successfully passed the accreditation review of the Independent Agency for Accreditation and Rating (NAAR) and were awarded International Accreditation Certificates valid for five years.
9) Another significant event during the reporting period was the visit of the Rector of Samarkand State University named after Sharof Rashidov, Doctor of Technical Sciences and Professor Rustam Ibragimovich Kholmurodov, to Tajik National University. On May 20, 2025, at an extended extraordinary meeting of the University Academic Council, Professor Kholmurodov was awarded the honorary title of “Honorary Doctor of Tajik National University.”
10) Ensuring favorable living conditions for employees in the fields of science and education and improving their welfare remain under the constant attention of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, His Excellency Emomali Rahmon, and the salaries of these employees are increased annually. Accordingly, from September 1, 2025, the salaries of teaching staff and employees of higher professional education institutions funded from the state budget were increased by 20%. In addition, the administration of Tajik National University decided, based on a resolution of the University Academic Council, to further increase the salaries of the University’s teaching staff and core employees by an additional 10% starting from September 1, 2026.
11) Another achievement of the University in 2025 was the first-place award won by the University’s Olympiad team at the Republican Olympiad. During the reporting year, the Republican Olympiad among higher professional education institutions of the country was held at the branch of the International University of Tourism and Entrepreneurship of Tajikistan in the city of Levakand. More than 500 students from 35 higher education institutions across the country participated in the competition. It is a source of pride that the University’s student Olympiad team secured first place overall, winning a total of 9 prizes (5 first places, 3 second places, and 1 third place) among the teams of higher professional education institutions of the Republic, and was awarded diplomas, medals, and commemorative gifts.
12) Based on decrees of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, the national competitions “Furughi Subhi Donoi Kitob Ast” (Knowledge Begins with Books), “Science – the Light of Enlightenment”, and “Tajikistan – My Beloved Homeland” were established. It is a matter of pride for the teaching staff and students of the University that Tajik National University consistently remains a leading participant in these competitions. In the final stage of the national competitions “Furughi Subhi Donoi Kitob Ast” and “Science – the Light of Enlightenment,” the University’s student teams participated in various nominations and won a total of 11 honorary places. In the district stage of the national competition “Tajikistan – My Beloved Homeland,” in the vocal performance category, Shoira Ismoilova, a student of the Faculty of Law, won second place, and at the city stage, she was awarded third place.
13) The active participation of the University’s students in international-level competitions has also been notable. On May 15, 2025, the final round of the 24th International “Chinese Bridge” Competition among students of higher education institutions of the Republic of Tajikistan was held at the Tajik State Pedagogical University named after S. Aini. Laylo Murodova, a second-year student majoring in Chinese–Tajik Language at the Faculty of Asian and European Languages, won first place.
14) In addition, from May 12 to 15, 2025, two important international-level events dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the neutrality of the Republic of Turkmenistan were held in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan. The first event was an International Conference entitled “Foreign Policy and Diplomacy of Turkmenistan: Cooperation for Peace, Security, and Sustainable Development”, and the second was the Second International Student Forum entitled “International Relations: The Culture of Peaceful Dialogue.” On May 12, within the framework of these events, an International Olympiad was held with the participation of representatives from 13 countries and 39 universities. Based on the results of the Olympiad, Sino Safarzoda, a student of the University, won first place.
15) From April 21 to 25, 2025, the 15th Eurasian Youth Economic Forum was held in Yekaterinburg, Russian Federation. Within the framework of the Forum, various international-level competitions were organized, in which the University’s Olympiad team actively participated. Members of the Olympiad team of Tajik National University participated both in person and online, winning a total of 5 gold medals, 5 silver medals, and 6 bronze medals. At the same time, the University’s Olympiad team achieved victories in the nominations “Best Performance in the CIS,” “Best Essay,” “Best Scientific Research Paper,” and “Best Scientific Idea.”
16) Furthermore, from September 20 to 27, 2025, the International Astronomy Olympiad – 2025 (Open World Astronomy Olympiad – OWAO 2025) was held in Sochi, Russian Federation. Huseyni Ghulomzoda, a student of the Faculty of Physics of Tajik National University, participated in the Olympiad and was awarded a bronze medal.
17) During the reporting period, one graduate of the Natural Sciences and Mathematics Lyceum affiliated with the University was awarded a Certificate of Excellence and a gold medal in the natural sciences and mathematics track, while six graduates of Grade 9 received Certificates of Distinction (Red Certificates).
18) On the initiative of the Committee for Women and Family Affairs under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan, a national competition entitled “Whoever Recites the Shahnameh…” was held among female students of secondary and higher professional education institutions in honor of Youth Day of Tajikistan. In this competition, Parinamoh Nazirova, a student of the Faculty of Philology of the University, won the Grand Prize.
19) Another important achievement during the reporting period was the opening of the Japan Studies Center at the Faculty of Law of the University. The establishment of the Japan Studies Center will contribute to the development of academic and educational cooperation, strengthening continuous dialogue, and fostering the development of relations between Tajikistan and Japan within the framework of long-term partnership. Currently, 25 learners (University students) are studying the Japanese language at the Center.
20) Another significant event in 2025 was the opening of the Training Center on Combating Transnational Organized Crime. The Center was established on March 20, 2025, at the Faculty of Law of Tajik National University in order to implement relevant provisions of the Action Plan for the realization of the “State Program for Combating Crime in the Republic of Tajikistan for 2021–2030.”
21) During the reporting period, another important event was the opening of the Korean Language Training Center at the University. The purpose of establishing this Center is to teach the Korean language in accordance with the academic specializations of the Faculty of Asian and European Languages.
22) Within the framework of the project “Addressing Environmental Concerns, Social Needs, and Good Governance in Education and Employment in Central Asia,” the Analytical Center for Sustainable Development and Digital Economy was established at the University in November. Preparatory work for equipping the Center is currently underway.
23) Another important achievement relates to the University’s medical activities. On February 22, 2025, new offices and educational classrooms of the Department of Human Anatomy of the Faculty of Medicine were officially put into operation. Following renovation and refurbishment, the classrooms were equipped with the necessary facilities and include: staff offices, six classrooms for practical training, one anatomical dissection laboratory, one anatomy laboratory, one lecture hall, four electronic boards, visual teaching aids, anatomical models, and specialized banners.
24) Another achievement is related to the University’s sports activities. The student team of Tajik National University actively participated in the Futsal League Competition among Higher Professional Education Institutions and won third place.
25) It should be noted that one of the most important issues in the modern system of science and education of the country is promoting an increase in the number of scholars and researchers holding academic degrees and titles. This issue is consistently emphasized and thoroughly discussed during meetings of the Leader of the Nation with representatives of the scientific and educational community. In light of these priorities, the University administration undertook urgent measures to increase the number of scholars and researchers with academic degrees and titles. A range of initiatives was implemented to ensure the timely defense of dissertations and to recognize the scientific output of scholars.
Accordingly, teaching staff and core employees of the University who defended Candidate of Sciences and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) dissertations, as well as Doctoral and Habilitation Doctor dissertations in priority and rare fields in 2025 were incentivized with financial rewards of 25,000 TJS and 35,000 TJS, respectively.
Furthermore, based on a resolution of the University Academic Council, teaching staff and core employees who defended Candidate of Sciences, PhD, Doctoral, and Habilitation Doctor dissertations in other scientific fields in 2025 received incentives of 20,000 TJS and 30,000 TJS, respectively.
This initiative has been expanded for the current year, 2026, with planned incentives of 35,000 TJS for candidate-level dissertation defenses and 45,000 TJS for doctoral-level defenses.
26) In order to enhance the status of women at the University—one of the priorities of the state policy of the Republic of Tajikistan—the University administration has created favorable conditions for conducting research and scientific studies in the fields of natural, mathematical, and exact sciences. As a result, scholars of Tajik National University, including women, actively participated in international exhibitions, where their scientific achievements received honorary recognition.
In particular, from February 16 to 19, 2025, the 15th International Invention Exhibition of the Middle East was held in the State of Kuwait. Among 197 participants from 42 countries worldwide, representatives of Tajik National University were awarded two gold medals (Sh. R. Samihzoda and R. M. Alovuddinzoda) and one silver medal (M. Yo. Yorov).
27) In addition, from May 22 to 24, 2025, the International Invention Exhibition “Women Inventors – KIWIE 2025” was held in Seoul, Republic of Korea. At this exhibition, Rukhshona Aloviddinzoda, Deputy Director of the Research Institute of Tajik National University, was awarded a gold medal of the international exhibition as well as a special prize from the Korea Institute of Patent Information.
28) In addition, from October 6 to 8, 2025, an International Scientific and Practical Conference entitled “Prospects of Artificial Intelligence in Dentistry” was held in Samarkand, Republic of Uzbekistan. During the conference, Shahnosa Egamova, Head of the Department of Orthopedic Dentistry and Maxillofacial Surgery of the University, Candidate of Medical Sciences and Associate Professor, was admitted as a full member of the World Dental Association.
29) In support of the constructive initiative of the Chairman of the National Assembly of the Supreme Assembly of the Republic of Tajikistan, Mayor of Dushanbe, President of the Central Asian Football Association (CAFA), and President of the Tajikistan Football Federation, His Excellency Rustam Emomali, regarding the adoption of a special resolution of the United Nations and the declaration of World Football Day (May 25), the University established a five-a-side football team “Somon.” The team has gained a distinctive position among the professional teams of the Republic.
30) Other achievements of the University during the reporting period are related to awards from international competitions. In January of the reporting year, the Third International Competition “Discovering the World of Intellectual Property” was held in the Republic of Belarus, with participation of the University’s students. Ahmadjon Tohirovich Nazarov, a second-year student of the Faculty of Chemistry of Tajik National University, won first place in this competition.
31) Within the framework of scientific and cultural cooperation between the Republic of Tajikistan and the Republic of Uzbekistan, various events of different levels have been organized. In the reporting year, to honor Mir Alisher Navoi—the great 15th-century scholar, poet, and thinker—the 4th International Symposium entitled “Alisher Navoi and the Renaissance of the East” was held at Alisher Navoi State University of Uzbekistan. At this international event, the Republic of Tajikistan was represented by Badriddin Maqsudov, Doctor of Philological Sciences and Professor of the Department of History of Tajik Literature at the Faculty of Philology of Tajik National University, who delivered a presentation and was awarded the international medal “Devotee of Spirituality.”
32) By decree of the President of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, Mr. Asif Ali Zardari, the highest state award “Sitara-e-Quaid-e-Azam” was conferred upon Haydar Qurbonov, Associate Professor of the Department of Hindi Philology at the Faculty of Asian and European Languages of the University.
33) M. S. Imomzoda, Professor of the Faculty of Philology and Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Tajikistan, participated in the Interstate Award Competition “Stars of the Commonwealth” of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) and became a laureate of the Interstate Award “Stars of the Commonwealth.”
In addition, Sorbon Zafarov, Senior Lecturer of the Department of Organic Chemistry of the Faculty of Chemistry, Candidate of Chemical Sciences, was awarded the CIS Prize “Union of First Initiatives” among young researchers in the field of natural sciences.
34) In June 2025, students of the University participated in the Second International Olympiad held in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan, which brought together representatives of 79 universities and institutes from 13 countries worldwide. As a result, the University’s students won one first-place award and five third-place awards.
35) Another notable achievement of the University was recorded on the occasion of Tajik Science Day, when Murod Murodi, Professor of the Faculty of Journalism, was awarded the title “Scientist of the Year” in the field of humanities. At the same time, Ra’no Nasriddinova, a fourth-year student of the Faculty of International Relations, won second place in the national competition “Student of the Year – 2025.”
36) Another important development during the reporting period was the official business visits of the University’s leadership, teaching staff, and employees aimed at expanding international cooperation. In particular, from June 11 to 14, 2025, an International Scientific Conference entitled “700 Years with Hafez” was held at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris, France. This high-level academic conference was dedicated to the 700th anniversary of the birth of the great Persian–Tajik mystic and poet Hafez of Shiraz. The delegation of Tajik National University, including distinguished professors Sirojiddini Emomali, Badriddin Maqsudov, Mirzo Solehov, Mehrī Mahmadova, and Associate Professor Vahhobzoda Rustam, participated in the conference and delivered presentations.
37) It is a source of pride that during the reporting period, a number of the University’s faculty members and staff were honored by the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan, particularly by the Leader of the Nation, with state medals and honorary distinctions. Specifically, in the reporting year:
- 2 individuals were awarded the honorary title “Honored Worker of Tajikistan”;
- 9 individuals received the “Meritorious Service” Medal;
- 1 individual was awarded the Certificate of Honor of the Republic of Tajikistan;
- 2 individuals received the State Prize of the Republic of Tajikistan for scholars and teachers in the fields of natural, exact, and mathematical sciences;
- 3 individuals were awarded the “Ismaili Somoni” Prize for Youth;
- 2 individuals received the Commemorative Medal of the 30th Anniversary of the People’s Democratic Party of Tajikistan.
In addition, 93 individuals were honored with Certificates of Honor and Letters of Appreciation from Tajik National University.
38) In accordance with the instructions and directives of the Founder of Peace and National Unity – Leader of the Nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan, His Excellency Emomali Rahmon, delivered during meetings with education sector employees, and in line with the implementation of the “Twenty-Year Program for the Study and Development of Natural, Exact, and Mathematical Sciences in Science and Education (2020–2040)”, as well as within the framework of the “Development Strategy of Tajik National University for 2021–2025,” the University administration developed an institutional action plan. To align the educational process with international standards, the University launched foreign-language academic programs in the 2024–2025 academic year.
Within the Faculty of Medicine, an English-language group was established with the enrollment of foreign nationals, and more than 120 foreign students, alongside domestic students, were admitted to study.
Educational and Methodological Activities
In accordance with its assigned responsibilities, during the 2024–2025 academic year the University’s Academic Affairs Office, alongside its routine educational and methodological activities, focused its work on fulfilling a wide range of tasks. These included monitoring the teaching process, organizing the educational workflow, tracking students’ academic progress and learning outcomes, preparing the necessary documentation to ensure the organized and high-quality delivery of classes, reviewing the educational and methodological documentation of faculties, ensuring the regular conduct of classes, verifying compliance with curriculum requirements, improving the organization of educational activities, and supervising the implementation of the teaching workload of the University’s faculty members.
In the 2024–2025 academic year, in accordance with the current curricula and the requirements of the State Standard of Higher Professional Education of the Republic of Tajikistan, educational programs and curricula for 134 active academic specialties were successfully launched. In addition, during the second semester, the Agency for Supervision in the Field of Education and Science under the President of the Republic of Tajikistan granted licenses for 12 new academic specialties.
The educational process in the full-time, distance, and part-time (extramural) divisions was traditionally conducted across three levels of education—Bachelor’s, Specialist, and Master’s—in three languages: Tajik, Russian, and English, in accordance with approved curricula.
Academic Staff and Student Enrollment
At present, the University operates 128 departments (including 122 specialized departments, 6 general university departments, and one military department). A total of 1,379 faculty members are engaged in educational and methodological activities, including 12 academicians and 16 corresponding members of the National Academy of Sciences of Tajikistan. Among them are 226 Doctors of Sciences and Professors and 685 Candidates of Sciences and Associate Professors.
It is noteworthy that 911 full-time faculty members at the University hold academic degrees and titles, constituting 68.42% of the University’s main teaching staff. This figure is among the highest indicators across higher education institutions in the Republic.
Of the total faculty, 400 (30.00%) are women, including 1 full member (academician) of the National Academy of Sciences of Tajikistan, 47 Doctors of Science and Professors, 190 Candidates of Science, Associate Professors, and Assistants. In total, 237 women faculty members at the University hold academic degrees and titles.
Number of Students
In the 2025–2026 academic year, the University enrolls 23,658 students, of whom 18,505 are full-time, and 4,479 are enrolled in part-time or distance learning programs. Among these, 674 are Master’s students.
Of the total student body, 9,464 (40%) are female and 14,297 (60%) are male.
The University comprises 20 faculties housed in 20 academic buildings, providing a total of 18,315 seats per class session. According to the annex of the License for Conducting Educational Activities issued by the Agency for Supervision in Education and Science under the President of the Republic of Tajikistan and the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Tajikistan, the educational area allocated per student is 7.0 m².
Monitoring, Surveys, and Quality Control of Education
The staff of the Quality Control Department continuously monitor and guide the teaching staff to strengthen their professional skills, implement modern active teaching methods, utilize information and communication technologies, visual aids, and various forms of lesson presentations. These efforts aim to continuously improve the quality of education at the University.
Presidential Quota Students
Students admitted under the Presidential Quota of the Republic of Tajikistan receive constant attention from the University administration and faculty deans. At the University, 254 students are enrolled under this quota across 14 faculties, of whom 111 are female and 143 are male. Among these quota students, 116 reside in the University dormitories.
Examination Sessions and Scholarships for the 2024–2025 Academic Year
The assessment and examination sessions for the 2024–2025 academic year (summer session) were scheduled in accordance with the current educational plans by the order of the Rector for the full-time programs of the University.
In accordance with the decisions of the Council of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Tajikistan (May 15, 2024, No. 82-09 for the summer session and May 7, 2025, No. 89-09 for the winter session), the examinations were conducted with a 60% oral component and a 40% written test component.
After the summer session, the results of knowledge acquisition were 99.1% for oral exams and 98.05% for test exams. The quality of education, defined as the percentage of students who passed with “good” and “excellent” grades, was 39.2% for oral exams and 36.6% for test exams.
After summarizing the results of both the winter and summer sessions, the knowledge acquisition rates reached 99.1% and 99.01%, while the quality of education reached 37% and 39%, respectively.
Scholarships
For students who achieved excellent academic performance and demonstrated exemplary conduct, the University has established merit-based scholarships. The total number of such scholarships at the University is 55.
Additionally, the Presidential Scholarship of the Republic of Tajikistan is awarded to 20 top-performing students who also exhibit exemplary behavior. Furthermore, 37 socially vulnerable students, including orphans and students with first- and second-degree disabilities, received social scholarships. 35 students in state-funded programs with excellent performance also received merit-based scholarships.
Analysis showed that, considering first-year students, a total of 2,367 students received scholarships. Of these:
- 994 students (41.99%) received excellent scholarships,
- 1,103 students (46.59%) received good-to-excellent scholarships,
- 150 students (6.33%) received average scholarships.
Among the total number of state-funded students (3,982 students in the second semester of the 2024–2025 academic year), 59.44% received scholarships.
For students who demonstrate excellent academic performance and exemplary conduct, the University maintains merit-based scholarships, including both Presidential and named scholarships, totaling 55 awards.
Practical Training and Professional Development
At the 20 faculties of the National University of Tajikistan, where students study in 134 specialties, practical training is organized according to the existing educational plans of the faculties. Students undergo four types of practical training: educational, industrial, teaching, and pre-diploma. This training is conducted in their respective specialty departments, organizations, ministries, law enforcement agencies, media outlets, university training bases, and other institutions across the country.
Natural and Mathematical Lyceum of the University
The Lyceum provides favorable conditions for all students in both exact sciences and humanities. In the 2024–2025 academic year, 974 students studied at the Lyceum, of which 360 were girls.
- The primary classes (grades 1–4) include 20 classes with 517 students, of whom 207 are girls.
- The secondary classes (grades 5–11) include 20 classes with 457 students, of whom 153 are girls, and 20 subject teachers are assigned as class advisors.
The Lyceum employs 62 teachers, including 51 full-time teachers and 11 part-time teachers. During the 2024–2025 academic year, 14 teachers improved their pedagogical skills through advanced professional development courses at the Institute for Advanced Training in Dushanbe.
Institute for Advanced Training of Teachers
In 2025, the Institute for Advanced Training of Teachers under the National University of Tajikistan organized and conducted advanced professional courses for teachers and staff of secondary and higher vocational education institutions.
- In total, 23 advanced courses were held, including 9 mobile courses and 14 in-house courses, involving 766 teachers from secondary and higher vocational education institutions.
- Additionally, 30 employees from law enforcement agencies participated in professional development and retraining courses.
- Among the 766 participants, 276 were teachers from the National University of Tajikistan.
Scientific and Research Activities
During the reporting year, the university’s faculty and staff conducted scientific research on 43 areas, 100 topics, and 123 research themes, which were organized into four main scientific branches.
This year, out of the total number of university faculty and staff, 1,352 individuals participated in scientific research activities.
Scientific Publications and Research Indicators
This year, the number of scientific articles published in international journals has increased compared to previous years, reaching 299 articles, of which 58 were published in Scopus-indexed journals.
One of the university’s key indicators in international rankings is the publication of faculty and staff articles in reputable journals indexed in Scopus and Web of Science. The Hirsch Index (h-index) of the university in 2025 reached 49 (compared to 47 in 2024), reflecting the recognition and citation impact of the faculty’s and researchers’ publications.
To further increase the number of scientific publications in Scopus and Web of Science journals, the university administration has not only provided the necessary conditions but also established a monetary incentive of 3,000 somoni for each published article.
Innovation and Inventions
Innovative and inventive activities represent another important direction of the university’s work. Out of 11 certificates and preliminary patents planned for 2025, the university obtained 3 patents and 7 preliminary patents.
Graduate and Postgraduate Education
In the past year, 355 master’s students from 38 specialties graduated from the university, of whom 155 received diplomas with distinction, reflecting the quality of education at the master’s level.
In the first semester of the 2025–2026 academic year, 247 first-year master’s students in 31 specialties and 331 second-year master’s students in 36 specialties were admitted.
Currently, the university has:
- 17 full-time doctoral students,
- 68 candidate-doctoral students (university-affiliated),
- over 267 candidate students, and
- 202 Ph.D. students in their first, second, and third years.
In the past year, the university admitted:
- 52 candidate students (13 on a contract basis),
- 6 full-time doctoral students,
- 50 Ph.D. students, and
- 25 candidate-doctoral students.
During the same period, the university graduated:
- 3 candidate students,
- 5 full-time doctoral students,
- 2 candidate-doctoral students, and
- 75 Ph.D. students.
Scientific Potential and Academic Councils
The high level of the university’s scientific potential allowed the establishment of 16 Dissertation Councils under the Higher Attestation Commission of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan (RT) and 8 Dissertation Councils under the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation (RF).

The organization and holding of conferences, seminars, and other scientific and public events facilitate the discussion of research results by faculty and staff. In 2025, the university organized and conducted 334 scientific events of various levels, including:

- 54 national conferences
- 12 national round tables
- 53 university conferences
- 143 seminars
- 41 university round tables
In total, in 2025, university faculty and staff delivered 4,630 presentations, including:
- 1,488 at international events
- 2,026 at national events
- 1,116 at university-level events
Student Participation in Competitions and Olympiads
Another important aspect of student activity is participation in competitions and Olympiads.
- On March 6, 2025, the International Online Physics Olympiad was held in the Russian Federation, in which third-year Physics student Anahito Sharipova participated online and won third place.
- In May 2025, students of the National University of Tajikistan participated in the national competition for the “Cup of the University Department of International Tourism and Tajikistan Ownership” in the fields of mathematics, physics, chemistry, information technologies, and economic geography with demographic foundations, winning 3 first places and 1 second place.
Innovation Department
To implement the directives of the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan regarding digitalization and fostering innovation at the university, the Innovation Department operates, under which several units and centers have been established.
- Innovation Center: This center trains specialists in 3D object design, 3D printing, and programming. Additionally, the center collaborates with the “Science and Nature” TV channel, broadcasting the program “Information Technology” every Tuesday with the participation of the university’s professors and researchers.
- Technology Park: The activity of the Technology Park has been significant during the reporting period. In 2025, the park operated 8 production directions, which is 4 more than in 2024. For the first time, the Technology Park of the National University of Tajikistan participated in the 3ZERO competition alongside other organizations and individual entrepreneurs and was selected among the top five finalists.
- Biotechnology Center: The center’s work focuses on two scientific topics:
- Studying the characteristics of thermophilic bacteria from geothermal sources in the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO).
- Developing effective biotechnological methods for microclonal propagation and long-term preservation of economically important plant gene pools.
During the year, the center’s staff published 30 articles and abstracts.

Educational and Upbringing Activities
In 2025, the Educational and Upbringing Division of the university made significant contributions to the implementation and execution of the Upbringing Plan of the National University of Tajikistan as well as internal faculty plans, achieving notable results in the field of student development.
These achievements include the implementation of sectoral plans and programs, support in organizing and conducting large ceremonial events, festive marches, cultural, sports, literary initiatives, educational classes, political lectures and patriotic lessons, as well as mobilizing professors and students to participate in national television and radio programs and other activities related to educational work.
In 2025, representatives of this division, following national laws, state programs, sectoral strategies, and the university’s current schedules and plans, organized and conducted 1,142 events at the university, district, city, republican, and international levels. This number represents 194 more events compared to the same period in 2024.
International Relations Activities of the University
The international relations activities of the university have been established based on the educational policy of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, esteemed Emomali Rahmon, and are continuously developing and improving.
The establishment of multifaceted scientific and educational cooperation between the university and foreign universities and research centers remains a central focus of the university administration. Constant efforts are made to ensure that these collaborations grow and expand. In 2025, through the initiative and continuous efforts of the university rector, 25 agreements were signed with universities and partner institutions.
At the university, 538 foreign citizens have been involved as lecturers, Ph.D. holders, traditional doctoral students, postgraduates, research trainees, master’s students, undergraduates, and language learners. To monitor the participation of foreign students in classes at all levels of education, the International Relations Department, in collaboration with the Academic Affairs Office, the Quality Control Department, and the faculty administrations, has been implementing targeted measures.
In the 2024-2025 academic year, 21 foreign students studied languages at the Language Learning Center. Among them, 19 studied Tajik and 2 studied Russian. The students represented the following countries: China (7 students), the USA (6 students studying Tajik), Australia (2 students), South Korea (1 student studying Tajik), Canada (1 student), Saudi Arabia (1 student studying Russian), Slovakia (1 student studying Tajik), Germany (1 student studying Tajik), and Turkmenistan (1 student).
Confucius Institute at the National University of Tajikistan
The Confucius Institute at the National University of Tajikistan carried out its activities in 2025 in accordance with the approved plan. From February 10 to 14, 2025, the Institute conducted registration of students for the spring semester of the 2025 academic year, with classes commencing on February 17. According to the statistics, 1,057 students enrolled in Chinese language courses during the spring semester, of which 67 students received tuition-free education for one semester due to their academic merits.
From September 8 to 13, 2025, the Institute conducted registration of students for the fall semester of the 2025 academic year, and classes began on September 15. In the fall semester, 1,089 students were enrolled in Chinese language courses.
During the reporting year, the Institute achieved significant accomplishments, including:
- 2nd and 3rd place in the 5th World Competition for recording videos, “Best Confucius Institute”;
- Outstanding place in the 24th World Competition “Chinese Bridge” among students;
- 3rd and 4th place in the international competition “Short Films on Chinese Language Lessons”;
- 1st and 2nd place in the 5th competition “Telling Stories about China in English”;
- 3rd place in the photography contest “Parliament Building of Tajikistan and Government Building of Tajikistan – Symbols of China-Tajik Friendship Built with Chinese Assistance”;
- The Institute also hosted the International Conference on Chinese Language Learning alongside the calligraphy and art exhibition “Chinese Bridge – 2025” and won the award for “Internet Popularity.”
Economic and Financial Activities
The Economic and Social Department of the National University of Tajikistan carried out a range of measures during the reporting year to ensure favorable material, moral, and social conditions for faculty, staff, and students in cooperation with other university departments.
Notable achievements include:
- Renovation of the library in the Faculty of Philosophy building;
- Establishment of the Diagnostic, Treatment, and Educational Center, and the Department of Human Anatomy as an educational base for the Faculty of Medicine with 100 seats;
- Relocation of the Department of Pedagogy from Educational Building No. 3 to the new facility alongside the anatomy department.
According to the letter of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Tajikistan dated May 8, 2025, No. 12(75)01-101, the university constructed a school with 4 classrooms and a teachers’ room in the village of Qalaycha, Hisorak Rural Community, Rasht District. This school was officially inaugurated on August 26, 2025, during the working visit of the President of Tajikistan, esteemed Emomali Rahmon.
